Description Bjoern Jacke 2006-01-06 11:49:50 UTC
as the upcoming OOo release will have hunspell as default spellcheck engine and hunspell is 100% compatible with myspell (and as far as I can tell it's rock stable), I suggest to make it the default in OOo of SuSE 10.1. At the moment this is an optional package and needs manual interaction which is much too complex for ordinary users.

It will also make it easy to install upcoming dictionaries, which will rely on hunspell. Please also consider to ship the new German/Austrian/Swiss hunspell dictionary, which you can find here: http://j3e.de/hunspell/. It's checking quality is greatly enhanced due to compound word support of hunspell.

I vote to set hunspell as the default speelchecker. Michael, what do you think?

Björn, do you already know, in which OOo version hunspell will be used by default? (2.0.2, 2.0.3, ...)
Comment 2 Bjoern Jacke 2006-01-09 14:49:56 UTC
yes, the release plans for 2.0.2 say it will be the new default and will replace myspell.
Comment 3 Petr Mladek 2006-01-09 15:04:22 UTC
Great, we plan to use OOo-2.0.2 for NLD10, so this is the definite reason to set it default already now. I have to do it this week.

BTW: Is there already a CWS for this?
Comment 4 Michael Meeks 2006-01-09 15:05:06 UTC
well - we should certainly port the multi-megabyte memory saving from myspell to hunspell then before we release ;-)
Comment 5 Petr Mladek 2006-01-10 10:08:35 UTC
Myspell was replaced by Hunspell in CWS hunspell. This CWS is integrated in m149. I am going to update to m149.
Comment 6 Petr Mladek 2006-01-17 17:03:02 UTC
Hunspell is used by default now. The obsolete package hunspell has been removed. The German, Austrian, and Swiss myspell dictionaries are updated to the sources from http://j3e.de/hunspell/.

All changes should be available on SL 10.1-beta1.
