Description Tim Fechtner 2006-01-09 15:35:43 UTC
The login manager yet starts up befor the NIS client is started up. This leads to the fact, that after booting the login manager can't show the user names avaible trought NIS.

After a graphical login and logout (or after crashing X trought Strg+Alt+Backspace), when the login manager starts up another way, then normally the NIS client is yet started and everything works fine - until the next poweroff and poweron.

Just do

     insserv -rf /etc/init.d/earlykdm
Comment 2 Stephan Kulow 2006-01-09 16:38:19 UTC
that's a good work around. My goal is to add NIS polling into kdm, but so far never managed to. And not many seem to miss the users so far ;)
Comment 3 Tim Fechtner 2006-01-09 20:49:24 UTC
Many thanks for the fast answer with the workaround.

However, NIS polling in kdm would be a very good idea.
Comment 4 Stephan Kulow 2006-09-07 12:35:49 UTC
I added it to our feature evaluation tool, so I only have one source to track features
Comment 5 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-25 09:18:52 UTC
mass reopening all 10.2 LATER+REMIND bugs.
Comment 6 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-25 09:22:57 UTC
close all 10.2 LATER/REMIND bugs as WONTFIX. Reopen yourself if you still plan to work on it.
Comment 7 JP Rosevear 2008-07-14 19:03:29 UTC
Pointing to fate properly.
