Description Peter West 2006-01-13 12:53:23 UTC
Before installing SuSE, I had constructed a modified XKB keymap for my ThinkPad G41. (If you work with XKB, you'll know just what that entails.) It wasn't general, but it worked for me. When I tried to specify this keyboard, through a set of XKB files, my keyboard input disappeared completely. I have found that virtually any attempt to directly modify the settings in xorg.conf will break my input. I'm running KDE, now at 3.5.

I may have overlooked some documentation about this. If so, please point me in the right direction. If not, please provide more systemlevel documentation about XKB usage in SuSE.

Given that the XKB setup is becoming more tightly controlled, I would appreciate the addition of more recent ThinkPad model keyboards to the supported keyboards set. My model has the "internet" previous-page and next-page keys, in addition to the regular PgUp and PgDn, whic are generally mapped to Prev and Next. Key specifiers are available for PageUp and PageDown, so some appropriate combination of keys and mappings is feasible.

With SuSE 10.0 we switched to xkeyboard-config (http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/XKeyboardConfig). This is probably the reason, why your setup no longer works. Anyway, I need more details about your xkb setup, i.e. all the files and the location of them to be able to reproduce the problem.

No feedback --> WONTFIX.
Comment 3 Peter West 2006-01-24 12:47:09 UTC
Sorry, but I didn't see Comment #1. I will follow up through the link, for now. In the meantime, I will attach the set of files I was using.

Here is a .tgz with the files I was using. I found it easier to just define a complete set of files for my thinkpad, because of the mind-numbing difficulty of XKB configuration. It's a while since I ued this config, but the model was g41_85, and I was probably using the nodeadkeys variant.

Hmm ... can you provide the according xorg.conf keybaard section?
