I have an fresh SuSE 10.0 install

scpm has default resouce groups after install which don't exsist. This confused me a while till I found out, the component (wwwoffle e.g.) was not installed.

It would be a great thing to have a scan off the system on existing files and services before creating resource groups to be able to provide a file/service list depending on the machine.

I fully agree to you that this would increase the task suitability of SCPM, but this is a technical issue, that cannot be resolved by the usability team.

SCPM has resource groups for components that are not installed by default, this is correct, but they are not enabled by default. I guess you have used YaST to enable those. We could add a check to YaST which tries to find out whether the files of the resource group the user is going to activate are installed in the system. But OTOH I think it might be more effort than it's worth. We could add a hint to the help that an active resource group does not necessarily mean the appropriate package is installed. Any comments?

Hm, it might be useful to check if services and files from the group user just selected exists.

I added a popup for checking the files in the resource group user clicked on.

Rebecca, could you fix my english? See comment #5 for the version with more files; if there is only one, the proposed text is:

"The file <b>%2</b> from resource group <i>%1</i>
is not available on the system.<br>
The resource group is probably not installed.<br>
Are you sure you want to select this resource group?"
