Description Christian Rauch 2006-01-22 15:09:56 UTC
The File SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-Beta1-mini.iso does not work.

Checksum is correct, but it is not bootable.
Comment 1 Andreas Jaeger 2006-01-22 15:36:10 UTC
Lars, any idea?
Comment 2 denis forveille 2006-01-22 15:58:29 UTC
Same for me. iso is correct, burning seems correct, but the cd is not bootable...
Comment 3 Lars Vogdt 2006-01-23 10:19:24 UTC
At first: the iso is correct.

But it seems that the iso is too small for some broken BIOSes. They didn't find the correct bootimage. I have to check this on some of our hardware. Perhaps we can add some "placebo files" who waste some space so that these BIOSes can find something useful.
Comment 4 Christian Rauch 2006-01-23 10:37:24 UTC
My System (where this iso fails) is a Duron 800 with an ECS Elitegroup K7VZA Mainboard.

It's a PC which was sold as Compaq Presario 5509.

If you have an iso for testing, i can for sure do this.

O.k. here it is:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/lrupp/iso/SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-x86_64-Beta1-mini.iso
(247MB)

I've tested this iso on a problematic host - it works here. But please give feedback if this iso solves your problem also. Then we should provide both:
* arch specific mini-isos (with minimal size)
* combined mini-iso for problematic hosts
for the next Beta.
Comment 6 Lars Vogdt 2006-01-23 13:22:29 UTC
ro found a better fix: we can place the boot catalog after the boot loader to give it a different address than sector 0x2f
Comment 7 Lars Vogdt 2006-01-23 14:28:39 UTC
OK. Build real mini-isos again with new fix for sector 0x2f:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/lrupp/iso/SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-Beta1-mini.iso (37M)

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/lrupp/iso/SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta1-mini.iso (37M)

ffe642f5b8449c7dc23ff5dd7ea64872 SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta1-mini.iso

If these new mini-isos work, we should replace the old ones.

Just tried the SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-Beta1-mini.iso and it works.

I am still downloading the combined one, but this will take some time :(

I can not try the x86_64 one, as i do not have such a system available
