Description Frank-Michael Fischer 2006-01-22 17:22:43 UTC
After a minimal text mode installation (just using CD1) and reboot the network is not running. "rcnetwork status" says "running". But only after a "rcnetwork restart" it is really running.
This bug is pretty annoying if you want to use an installation server starting with a minimal installation.
Comment 1 Stephan Binner 2006-01-22 17:31:31 UTC
And because it's annoying it's listed on http://www.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs ;-)...
Comment 2 Christian Zoz 2006-01-23 18:05:02 UTC
Can you please provide more information:
- the full output of rcnetwork status after reboot
- config files in /etc/sysconfig/network
- `chkconfig network`
- the full output of rcnetwork restart after reboot

Comment 4 Christian Zoz 2006-02-02 15:11:43 UTC
This bug is a duplicate of bug 141554 and is fixed.

But this report shows another bug which i just reproduced with beta 3:
In minimal installation we don't use NM. So YaST has to configure available interfaces. But it does only configure one of them. It should configure both with STARTMODE=ifplugd.
Comment 5 Martin Vidner 2006-02-02 17:13:21 UTC
It has always been so. I am reluctant to change it now, modifying the proposal is fragile (see bug 147270).
Comment 6 Christian Zoz 2006-02-03 08:47:28 UTC
The current setup is silly.

If you want to set up just one interface then:
- set STARTMODE=auto
- prefer the cable device (currently it seems to be random device)

If you use STARTMODE=ifplugd
- then set up both interfaces
Comment 7 Christian Zoz 2006-02-03 08:50:13 UTC
bug 147270 is exactly the same problem.
Comment 8 Martin Vidner 2006-02-03 09:44:39 UTC
For the record, not wired, but WiFi is preferred: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=144665.

Bug 147270 can be fixed without fixing this one, but it may be possible to deal with both at once.
Comment 9 Christian Zoz 2006-02-03 11:04:16 UTC
For the record:
I guess you got the wrong url.

What is the difference between bug 147270 and this one?
Comment 10 Frank-Michael Fischer 2006-02-04 11:35:26 UTC
beta3: The bug is still there. And moreover even after a full installation.
Comment 11 Martin Vidner 2006-02-05 16:22:26 UTC
As Christian hijacked the original bug to report a different one (bad boy!), I am now confused which one is still there. Frank, please open another report.
Comment 12 Frank-Michael Fischer 2006-02-05 17:02:51 UTC
done -> bug 148285

I will not hijack bug reports!

Martin, would you please answer comment 9?
Comment 14 Martin Vidner 2006-02-06 11:42:55 UTC
This bug is that something is proposed when you would like something else
to be proposed. In that one what is proposed is not written to the disk.
