Description Christian Boltz 2006-01-22 22:32:04 UTC
After updating from 10.0 final to 10.1 beta1, the sound configuration was lost. YaST showed "not configured" for my AC97 sound card.

I could "fix" the problem by setting up the sound card in YaST2, but sound configuration should be kept during update.

You can find the y2logs at

Please always attach the data sperately for each specific bug.

Is a direct link that problematic for you if it saves you 400k disk space per bug? ;-)

Takashi?
Comment 4 Takashi Iwai 2006-04-10 10:40:06 UTC
The update from 10.0 to 10.1 should work as it is. Was the system also update from 9.3?
Comment 5 Christian Boltz 2006-04-10 11:56:00 UTC
Yes - it was updated from 9.3 (final) to 10.0 (final) and then to 10.1 beta1
(and then several beta-beta updates up to beta9)
Comment 6 Takashi Iwai 2006-04-10 12:30:37 UTC
A related bug in alsasound was fixed in the later beta. So, it should work now.

Comment 7 Christian Boltz 2006-06-24 21:57:47 UTC
Unfortunately it doesn't - after updating 9.3 -> 10.0 -> 10.1 final the sound settings were lost again :-(

The problem description in the initial comment is still valid, the system is the same again (don't wonder, I use a copy if it while beta phase ;-)

Do you need fresh y2logs or any other information?
Comment 8 Takashi Iwai 2006-06-27 09:55:57 UTC
Reassigned to yast2-sound maintainer. It's basically a job of yast that cares the system update...
Comment 9 Link Porterfield 2006-07-06 16:21:07 UTC
My Via 8237 AC97 sound (which was working under 10.0) also has been broken by the upgrade to 10.1. Deleting and reconfiguring the card in YAST does not fix it. I have no sound.
Comment 10 Karsten Anderson 2006-07-08 14:50:10 UTC
i lost full duplex sound in 10.1, which worked perfectly in 10.0. i did a full install. i'll file a bug report.

If I try to insert the via82cxxx_audio modulke as I have seen suggested by others working on solving this problem in the past, I get the following:

# insmod /lib/modules/2.6.16.13-4-default/kernel/sound/oss/via82cxxx_audio.ko
insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.16.13-4-default/kernel/sound/oss/via82cxxx_audio.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module
Comment 12 Ladislav Slezák 2006-07-10 08:58:54 UTC
Link, could you attach the yast log? You should try modprobe instead of insmod (BTW OSS is not supported audio system).

ALSA was the sound system I was using. I did not notice the OSS in the path to the module.

I have sound problems also after updating my kernel.
I'm using SuSE 10.0 kernel 2.6.13-15.13 right now and I have an intel D865PERL mainboard. (intel 82801EB/ER [ICH5/ICH5R]) AC' 97 audio control and the driver is snd-intel8X0.

The previous kernel that I had (2.6.13-15.12) was working fine with sound and I was happy with it.

Like I said, after performing the update in YOU, the sound no longer worked and I'm very disappointed.

I'm attaching the results of dmesg and lsmod.

Please move this to the appropriate section if necessary.
Comment 19 Takashi Iwai 2008-06-25 09:51:10 UTC
Yes, it's WONTFIX as you can reconfigure as a workaround.

Comment 20 Christian Boltz 2008-06-25 11:58:17 UTC
Indeed, this bug is very old (affects 10.0 -> 10.1 update), so let's close it.
