Description Lorenz Gerber 2006-01-24 16:00:04 UTC
no sound (aplay). module seems to be loaded. some noise on the speaker when playing around with mic, line on alsamixer.
Comment 1 Takashi Iwai 2006-01-24 16:07:24 UTC
Please attach the contents of /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/* files and /etc/asound.state.

You are checking the output from the internal speaker, right? Did you check the output from headphone jack? Also, when you run aplay with -vv option, does VU meter proceeds?

/etc/asound.state

tried both spaker and phone jack, aplay with -vv option, no noise
Comment 5 Lorenz Gerber 2006-01-24 16:42:02 UTC
just get three lines of the VU meter. 3%, 99%, 3%
Comment 6 Takashi Iwai 2006-01-25 15:48:19 UTC
Turn on 'External Amplifier' on the mixer.
Comment 7 Lorenz Gerber 2006-01-25 16:04:00 UTC
still no sound after switching on ´external amp´. i think i tested all possible combinations in alsamixer. is it correct that it´s not possible to swich off all capture buttons? there is always one active. does it matter which one is activated?
Comment 8 Takashi Iwai 2006-01-25 16:09:37 UTC
Do you have snd-intel8x0m (note 'm') in the output of lsmod?

The capture switch of 'Mic', 'Line', etc indiciates the recording source. It's a mutual, and one of them must be selected. This alone doesn't mean to capable record something. You have to turn on 'Capture' switch and raise the Capture volume in addition.

Anyway, this ACM97 codec chip is not supported officially, so it might be that the driver doesn't work properly yet...
Comment 9 Takashi Iwai 2006-01-25 16:18:34 UTC
BTW, about the VU meter: do you mean that aplay proceeds smoothly until the end of the WAV samples, or stops at the beginning?
Comment 10 Lorenz Gerber 2006-01-25 16:28:13 UTC
ahh, now i got it about the VU, tried a longer .wav, and yeah it plays it until the end.

lsmod says its a "snd-intel8x0" thouhg this chipset should include a modem IMHO.
Comment 11 Takashi Iwai 2006-01-25 16:34:05 UTC
OK, then it implies no irq-routing problem. Fine.

I asked about snd-intel8x0m (m) because it's known that loading both drivers causes a problem on some audio-modem-codec chip (both audio and modem functions are implemented on a single codec chip).
Comment 12 Takashi Iwai 2007-02-26 13:18:45 UTC
The fix is in the upstream driver (2.6.21 kernel), finally. Resolved to LATER for now until the openSUSE kernel gets updated.

mass reopening all SuSE Linux bugs that are set to REMIND+LATER to change the resolution to WONTFIX (adapting to new policy)

Already fixed.
