Description John Barton 2006-01-27 16:57:22 UTC
Kismet will not run in 10.1 beta 1 on Dell 700m laptop with ipw2200 centrino wireless.

I get the following error trying to execute kismet_server:
Source 0 (default): Enabling monitor mode for ipw2200 source interface eth1 channel 6...
FATAL: Failed to set monitor mode: Invalid argument. This usually means your drivers either do not support monitor mode, or use a different mechanism for getting to it. Make sure you have a version of your drivers that support monitor mode, and consult the troubleshooting section of the README.

Monitor mode worked properly on same hardware running older kernel on different distribution

Jiri, can you look into this?

Zhu Yi, any idea what may cause this?

The patch is missed from upstream. I'll submit it to upstream again.

Ran into this on my laptop too.
Comment 5 Yi Zhu 2006-02-24 04:04:03 UTC
The patch in comment #3 is not in netdev GIT, but not Linus' GIT. Please apply it to SuSE kernel cvs.
Comment 6 Forgotten User 4Cp5OYkKcG 2006-04-05 02:17:29 UTC
This is still not fixed in beta9 2.6.16-8-default.

It is annoying to recompile the ipw2200 kernel module for every release to get kismet working on my laptop...
Comment 7 Gerald Pfeifer 2006-04-20 21:59:48 UTC
Zhu Yi, Rolla, would you mind attaching a patch against our kernel and
reassign this to the kernel-maintainers list? Thanks!
Comment 8 Yi Zhu 2006-04-21 06:55:43 UTC
The patch from comment #3 is in Linus' GIT now. Maybe SuSE will merge it as well. I don't know what to get SuSE's kernel tree so I cannot make a patch against that.

FYI: This is still not fixed in the released GM 10.1 2.6.16.13-4-default

dito comment #6
Comment 10 John Pugh 2007-03-15 19:23:21 UTC
Did not see resolution...is this fixed in 10.2?
Comment 11 Forgotten User 4Cp5OYkKcG 2007-03-15 20:42:09 UTC
This seems to be fixed - tested with 2.6.18.2-34-default on openSUSE 10.2
Comment 12 Yi Zhu 2007-04-29 02:53:25 UTC
According to comment #11, mark as fixed. BTW this is an intergration bug, please assign to someone else in the future.
