Description Forgotten User ZhJd0F0L3x 2006-02-02 13:09:40 UTC
The radeon Xserver sometimes crashes with SIG 11 when switching to a console.
I have seen this on 2 systems, one
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]
and one
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Radeon Mobility M300]

The logs i'll attach are from the Radeon9600.

note that it now no longer crashes on the 9600, i have since then updated fontconfig and removed the .fonts.cache-2 files (although i think this should be unrelated)

Christian also sees this on his Thinkpad X40.

I remember seen a similar report on one of the X.Org mailing lists. Benjamin commented on this.

It crashes on a T40.

And only when I switch to console while Desktop is starting.
After that, i can switch to console and back without problems.
Comment 7 Joachim Gleissner 2006-02-02 14:07:51 UTC
It crashes also on a X32 with Radeon chipset. Should I attach the log as well? It seems the X server does not crash as long as nothing happens. If I'm logged in and run eg. "for i in `seq 20` ; do ( xterm & ) ; done" and immediately switch to the console, X crashes reliably.

FWIW, there's a good chance that this wouldn't happen with current
xserver/xorg CVS. There's no question that the radeon cursor code could
use a good cleanup though.

Unfortunately no patch available. :-(

i had massive crashes today, although without switching to a VT.
First it crashed when i was starting an xterm.
Then i could reproducably crash the Xserver by logging in, starting konversation and clicking on konversation's titlebar.
I'll attach a xorg.log.old so you can check if this is the same crash or a new, better one.

Xorg.0.log.old from "konversation titlebar" crash

i switched to radeonold driver which does not (yet) crash.
Comment 12 Stefan Dirsch 2006-02-06 20:45:36 UTC
I decided to revert the related changes in the radeon driver. Closing as FIXED therefore.
