Description Forgotten User N1m2whZ-xl 2006-02-04 02:13:58 UTC
After installation, no X was present.
Calling sax2 does produce a black screen and does not return.

This is "ps x":

  8227 tty1 S+ 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/sbin/sax2 -r
 8228 tty1 S+ 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/sbin/sax.sh -r
 8373 tty1 S+ 0:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/sax/xc.pl
 8392 tty7 Ss+ 0:01 /usr/sbin/xw -br -xf86config /tmp/sax2-8373/xorg.conf -allowMouseOpenFail -verbose 10 +accessx vt7 :0 -ac
 8402 tty1 S+ 0:00 /usr/X11R6/bin/fvwm2 -f /usr/X11R6/share/fvwm/fvwmrc.sax
 8431 tty1 S+ 0:00 /usr/sbin/xw /var/log/xlog -br -xf86config /tmp/sax2-8373/xorg.conf -allowMouseOpenFail -verbose 10 +accessx vt7 :0
 8447 tty1 S+ 0:00 /usr/sbin/xapi --middle --sizecheck --info -display :0.0

Hardware is a Targa Traveller notebook with Turion64 CPU and ATI chipset.

I need to use these boot parameters:

turion:0 03:20:29 /boot # cat /proc/cmdline
auto BOOT_IMAGE=suse101 ro root=303 selinux=0 console=tty0 no_timer_check irqpoll acpi=off showopts
turion:0 03:21:15 /boot #

Without "acpi=off" I get kernel oopses during boot.
I even needed this during installation.

Hmm, I assume a driver problem. Could you send a log file

  /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Thanks

The radeon driver on Beta3 has serious problem. Could you try again with Beta3? Thanks.

... Beta3?
    ^^^^^^ Beta4 :-)
Comment 5 Stefan Dirsch 2006-02-20 11:29:11 UTC
Looks like this isn't an issue any more. Feel free to reopen, when the problem reoccurs with Beta > 3. Thanks.
