You can retrieve the logfiles with a rescue system (CD 1). What is the situation after the reboot? Does so machine really freeze hard? I reproduced now the bug again and had an access after switch off and restart with the rescue system. No infomation about this hang in any logfiles. Yast logfiles are not written to this time. Any idea? It's hardly possible that YaST logged nothing. Please just attach the whole /var/log/YaST2 directory as tarball. please take it serious. There is no YaST2 directory!
SUSE Linux 10.1 Status Update (Feb 9 2006)
> * Major bug in Beta3: Fontconfig
> * Package manager major changes
Could be there the problem?
Yes, this is most likely the fontconfig issue. Just wait a bit longer - or kill the fc processes and later install the updated font config directory. There really is a /var/log/YaST2/ - it is there all the time. Ulrich: Yes it's possibly this problem... sorry but it has really quite a number of symptoms. Update the packages available from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1-OSS-beta3/fixed-rpms and delete your ~/.font-cache* files. If this does not fix the problem, please reopen this bug. Sorry Michael, that is not a solution. The system status while the installation program hangs is undefined. There is no way to start YaST. Login as root is not possible because the authentication module is not installed. Login over rescue system is possible only. YaST hasn't fixed his job. That may be is the reason that there is no YaST logfile. In Rel. 10.0 it was possible to install German and Korean language additional to English. If you cannot install the updated RPMs, you should wait for beta4, if the problem resides, please reopen. |
