Description Joe Crollard 2006-02-20 17:26:14 UTC
This is more of a suggestion than anything...but, it seems that the new YOU notifier icon is made for gnome and not kde. I think it would be good to make a YOU system tray applet for kde as well, mainly because when it docks into the system tray, it doesn't look right on kde (it has a solid background behind the icon that shows over kicker gradients). Also, if the kicker crashes, because this icon is made for gnome, it 'pops' out of the system tray. Just a small annoyance really, I realise that not everything can be perfect.

Thanks.

KDE-Maintainers: Is there really no YOU KDE-applet available?
Comment 2 Dirk Mueller 2006-02-20 18:02:29 UTC
there is a KDE YOU applet available, but that doesn't help since you need a zen updater :)

Comment 3 Joe Crollard 2006-02-20 18:13:49 UTC
Ah yes..oops, zen-updater is now the replacement. That's what I meant by new YOU applet (zen-updater) :P.
Comment 4 Andreas Jaeger 2006-02-20 19:57:05 UTC
zen-updater is the application we will use for now. It works as KDE applet as well, so there's no need to update. Let us get zen-updater working properly first and then decide whether we write an updater that integrates nicer into KDE.

The embedding not only fails on kicker crash but also on
"dcop kicker Panel restart"

FYI there is a SoC project running doing a "KDE Rug Updater": http://code.google.com/soc/suse/about.html

Let's mark this as fixed - since that will happen eventually.
