Description John R Johansen 2006-02-23 01:37:09 UTC
sax2 aborts when attempting to configure video setup in a SL10.1 beta 4, installed in vmware 5.5 with vmware tools installed.

During install the X server setup failed. From a shell vmware tools were installed and a working xorg.conf was copied from a SL10.1 beta 1 install (also done in vmware). Rebooted and X and gnome desktop come up fine.

running sax2 from the command line gives the following:

dhcp-250:/home/jj # sax2
SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: your current configuration will not be read in

SaX: access to your display has been granted
SaX: ups lost card during probing... abort at /usr/share/sax/init.pl line 618.

the vmware window will resize and the xserver starts (hashed background, X cursor) and then it dies and drops back to the desktop.

note: sax2 appears to work fine in the SL10.1 beta 1 test install I have (same machine, same vmware, same vm settings). I haven't tested with beta 2 or 3 yet.

I need to login to the machine, could you manage that ?
Thanks

I had this problem with VMware 4.5 also.

Workaround: sax2 -m 0=vesa (found in Bug 148211) and init 6 (don't ask why, but it was necessary to make X working)
