While upgrading a SuSE 10.1 beta 3 system to beta5 I get a strange
dependency conflict.

"Cannot install mono-data because it is conflicting with mono-core
A conflict over mono-data == 1.1.13.2-8 (mono-data > 1.1.13.2-5) requires the removal of to-be-installed mono-data-1.1.13.2-8.i586"

The same for mono-data-sqlite and mono-web.

Has mono-core been splitted? There is no information that mono-core is old.
It could aswell be new to be installed. And the text says that I should remove mono-data... Anyway I guess I really should delete mono-core.

(The same type of message is shown for to-be-installed lukemftp with lftp)

The mono packages have not changed, but I believe Beta5 had some major dependency resolving issues:
