Description David Wright 2006-03-06 08:30:38 UTC
I installed the nVidia drivers yesterday and enabled 3D support, then after starting the machine today, OpenGL screensavers that were working yesterday display a blank screen and starting something like X-Moto complains that there is no 3D support...

Hmm, OK, refreshing the nVidia driver didn't help, but then I disabled the 'Option "Composite" "Enable"' in the Extensions section of xorg.conf and restarted X and it is working again.

Looks like there is an incompatibility with X.org Composite functions and the nVidia driver?

I'm aware of this problem. But we no longer enable Composite with SaX2 by default. The config file seems to be of an older Beta. You can check this by reconfiguring X11 ("sax2 -r").

OK if it is known. I had enabled Composite to look at the shadows and transparency effects under 3.5.1 to see what performance and stability were like.

Guess I'll leave that section out of my testing until this problem is resolved ;-)
