Description Juergen Orschiedt 2006-03-10 10:36:54 UTC
The vpnlogin process and racoon show heavy cpu-load, even after an successfull authentication. vpnlogin approx. 60%, racoon approx. 30% on a 2GHz CPU.

With knetworkmanager, nvpn runs forever with 60%, racoon always shows 30% (even after hours and working vpn connection).

A manual start of nvpn shows this load behaviour only during the 15-20s negotiation phase.

Tested with vpn.americas, vpn.dus and vpn.nue.

Installed modules:
novell-nortelplugins-0.1-15
turnpike-0.1.0-15
novell-ipsec-tools-0.6.3-11

racoon log doesn't show anything special in logfile:

Just crosschecked in plain GNOME environment.

Tops says:
 4651 root 25 0 4684 1540 1188 R 62.6 0.1 3:14.85 nvpn
 4644 root 15 0 3744 1724 1384 S 35.3 0.1 1:46.60 racoon

tested the -25 from http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfmod/project/?turnpike.
This version doesn't show the problem.
So, why are we still with -15?
Comment 4 Andreas Jaeger 2006-03-12 16:05:57 UTC
-25 is just the build number, so it could be the same package just build at a different time.

Let's assign to maintainer. If just replacing the rpm makes the difference, then the problem seems to be related to the turnpike version in autobuild.

As we have not yet heard T Sureshkumar on this I'm cc'ing rvinay. According to the turnpike.changes he was submitting the last updates for the turnpike package.
Comment 6 Vinay R 2006-03-13 10:07:15 UTC
The turnpike package (which includes the CPU Usage fix) has been submitted to Autobuild

About the difference in the web and Autobuild, they differ only by the release number. We will merge them.

juat installed the latest build from stable-x86
  turnpike-0.1.0-16
  novell-nortelplugins-0.1-17
  novell-ipsec-tools-0.6.3-12

Same effect like before - here's the output from top:
 4511 root 25 0 4684 1560 1212 R 49.6 0.1 2:13.23 nvpn
 4489 root 15 0 3752 1736 1396 S 26.6 0.1 1:08.25 racoon

Really wondering why the build from forge (-25) doesn't show this effect...

Can you please check with the new turnpike-0.1.0-17 available in hilbert3 ??

Comment 10 Juergen Orschiedt 2006-03-15 06:44:53 UTC
I'm onsite today, so I can't check before 20:00MEZ.

Please can you provide the URL or attach the RPM?
Maybe Timo has 5mins to look at the -17 build.
