It is not possible to open a link from knewsticker or in a mail in kmail. Standardbrowser is kfmclient. Kfmclient opens in a loop and crashes after several parallel tasks. Easy to reproduce.

does "kfmclient openURL http://novell.com/" work from command line?

if not, crash trace and console output please.
