Description Stanislav Brabec 2006-03-14 17:09:03 UTC
Evolution is far from being a mail client for enterprise desktop, at least on AMD64. While using it for daily work in the GNOME desktop, it crashes about 10 times daily:

Bug 117813 - evolution-data-server regularly crashes == http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333738

Bug 100135 - regular memory-hungry crashes of evolution == http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257930

random crash on exit == http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334053

More bugs and backtraces will come.

Assigning the bug to myself.
Comment 3 Stanislav Brabec 2006-03-15 15:47:00 UTC
There is another often seen crash:

Evolution does not survive D-BUS system bus restarts.

Comment 7 Stanislav Brabec 2006-03-22 11:02:16 UTC
This is not a crasher, but complicates work with Groupwise:

groupwise summary lies about unread mails == http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335489
Comment 8 Andreas Jaeger 2006-03-23 19:28:27 UTC
Veerapuram, will those issues get addressed by monday?
Comment 9 Veerapuram Varadhan 2006-03-23 20:11:57 UTC
AJ, Most of these crashers will get resolved by monday. Few others are quite random and their stacktraces doesn't suggest anything obvious. (Like the ones crashing in bonobo_main() etc).

Also, I have submitted fixes for many other random crashers (today).

Adding other developers to the cc'list.
Comment 10 Veerapuram Varadhan 2006-03-23 20:15:43 UTC
@Stanislav: I have created a test-snapshot with lots of fixes for random-crashers + GW mailer related bugs.

it can be scp'ed from nld10:nld10@vvaradhan-test.blr.novell.com:~/nld10-evo-snaps/mar-23

Thanks.

Fixed for Beta-9.
Comment 13 Stanislav Brabec 2006-03-28 13:57:56 UTC
Things going better. Thanks.

With the latest snapshot, only following above mentioned crashes were observer:

Bug 117813 - evolution-data-server regularly crashes == http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333738

And adding one optional bug to fix. Not blocker not crasher, only bleeding edge Novell technology incompatibility:

Comment 14 Andreas Jaeger 2006-03-29 09:26:24 UTC
I think most issues are fixed now, so let's downgrade this.
Comment 15 Bodo Bauer 2006-05-08 11:54:00 UTC
Hi, there hasnb't been any activity here for quite a while. Yet this bug is marked critical. In which shape are we for RC1? Could someone please post a summary?

Thanks!
Comment 16 Forgotten User eDPGYP6_cn 2006-05-09 05:06:18 UTC
I guess the only bug remaining in this list is the EDS crash on LDAP backends. So reassigning to the addressbook people.
Comment 17 Andreas Jaeger 2006-06-01 16:45:39 UTC
What is the status here? This bug has seen no activity for a couple of months.

Please state how to proceed - or whether this can be marked fixed. Also please put it into status "ASSIGNED" if you accept it!
Comment 18 Stanislav Brabec 2006-06-01 16:56:32 UTC
AFAIK most listed bugs are already fixed with exception of dependent bugs:
bug 100135, bug 117813
Comment 19 Andreas Jaeger 2006-06-02 06:12:56 UTC
The two dependend bugs are normal and major. So, this can only be major itself.

I marked the normal bug as major now.
Comment 20 Bodo Bauer 2007-01-25 15:39:29 UTC
I'm leaving Novell. If TPM assistance is needed, please ask Joachim Plack (AMD related issues) or Oliver Ries (general x86_64/i386) for assitance.
Comment 23 Mark Gordon 2007-11-02 19:40:19 UTC
One remaining dependent bug, since moved to the openSUSE 11.0 product ( Bug 100135 ). Is it worth keeping a collection bug open for a single bug?
Comment 24 Stanislav Brabec 2007-11-05 13:41:21 UTC
No. Only the gtkhtml memory-hungry crash issue is still not fixed, all others issues are fixed. We don't need this collection bug any more.

Removing bug 100135 from dependency tree and marking as fixed.
