Description Richard Beal 2006-03-14 19:39:54 UTC
Boot goes OK until grub is just about to display the menu. At that point it displays a blue graphic screen. At that exact point it hangs showing the blank blue screen. This happens randomly, it works normally about 50% of the time.

Workaround: comment out the gfxmenu line in menu.lst by putting # at the start. System then works perfectly.

Diagnosis: There is a bug in the gfxmenu command. May be specific to Vaio with ATI Radeon LY and 1280*600 screen?

We'll probably need some more info on your video hardware and BIOS.
Please attach the output of hwinfo --vbe.

Sounds like the ATI bug.

Your best bet would be to pick up a new grub and bootsplash-theme-SuSE
from the Factory tree at www.opensuse.org.

I don't understand why it has been marked as resolved when I'm running an up to date system and it fails to start up half the time? I hope this info you asked for may help.

Check the complete bug status - it's "resolved duplicate" (duplicate of bug 114004). You may want to check that report for more information.
