Description Forgotten User Xh41Ao4q6j 2006-09-13 01:45:41 UTC
Hard disk as installation source is missing in initial screen installation menu.

It can be found in text mode installation under Network Installation (?), it runs network setup questions and than asks for path. Path was entered couple of times with different combinations of leading and trailing slash, but it didn't worked for directory with iso images in directory, but that is old behavior.
It is not tested with normal directories, after expanding iso images to CD1 - CD5. I'll wait until it finds it's place in different menu, not Network Installation.

Steffen, is it possible to add "harddisk" to the boot menu? (Does it make sense? ;))
Comment 2 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-09-14 15:28:03 UTC
You mean put it _back_ in?

If I do it, it'll stay. And don't come with complaints like in bug 60128.

The 10.2a4 YaST is accepting hard disk directories CD1-5 as installation source. I used them to install additional programs, so I guess that the same source will work during installation.

What about second paragraph in Description.
Should be that filed as separate bug?
Comment 4 Roger Whittaker 2006-09-18 09:11:17 UTC
The ideal behaviour would be for this to be included in the installation menu, and (if the partition containing the installation source is set to be mounted during the partitioning process) for YaST to "remember" the mount point so that the installation from the hard disk source can continue after the first reboot (getting around the likely complaints mentioned in comment #2).

It's also slightly illogical that using the text mode install to do this now, you are forced to set up network properties for the install which won't actually be needed.
Comment 5 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-09-18 12:04:51 UTC
I'm all for it, but the YaST people complained at that time that they
couldn't handle all cases and got too many bugreports due too this (IIRC).

It is probably the easiest way for a lot of people to install test versions.
It will be missing real CD/DVD installation and related bugs, but at least there will be more tests of installed system.
Comment 7 Andreas Jaeger 2006-09-22 16:55:45 UTC
Let's enable it again..
