Created attachment 139885 [details]
RPM with PPD file on GPL license.
This RPM includes a few files and two of them are important:
* km2530dl.ppd.gz (provides ppd supporting mc2530DL)
* COPYING (gives info about license)
This file was found on CD provided with printer.
Thanks. So far, I can tell: 1. The PPD file does not contain any information whether it's under GPL or not. But even more the copyright says clear it is restricted to "KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES, INC." The included GPL license does _not_ reference to any included file. It's just included. 2. The PPD file requires the program "rastertokm2530dl". This program is included in the RPM, but the required source code is not included. Digging short through the program, it seems not to have any copyright notice, which means we are unable to redistribute it. But nevertheless. As the source is missing, we cannot build it for all of our supported platforms, nor can do any security updates (if necessary) in future. Sorry to say, but this driver cannot be shipped by us. We need two things: every file needs a clear statement that it is under GPL, or similar redistributable license. We need the source code files for updates and support of our platforms. Please ask the support of KONICA MINOLTA for these, if you are interested. Good luck. If you made it, feel free to reopen this bug. But at the moment we cannot add the driver ==> INVALID. Thank you Klaus Singvogel for *great* explaination. I'll try to contact with KM. FYI: Actually it ia a duplicate of bug #214599. |
