What happens on a fresh install of e.g. Alpha7 or later? If it works, this is a duplicate of the broken update, If it still does not, there might be a compiler bug lurking, as the source code did not change. I've just tested Alpha6 and Alpha7 with new installation (both versions are newly installed), this grub problem was not reproduced and this computer booted up successfully.
