Description Martin Schlander 2007-07-26 16:15:41 UTC
AJ said on the mailinglist to report problems with tango icons in bugzilla, so I'll report a couple of problems I have with them, besides them being ugly and depressing, as well as total misfits in KDE3 which will of course be the preferred desktop for 10.3 by a vast majority of users.

1) In the left pane of the yast control center the icons look like one big block. I suggest to either use smaller icons, or add a few pixels of additional space between the items to make it look less cluttered. Will attach screenshot.

2) The icons for "Hardware", "diskcontroller" and "system settings" are particularly bad with that puke green colour. Perhaps at least those few icons could be looked at.

Jimmac, could you improve these icons, please?

Martin, we're in the transition phase from KDE3 to 4 - and the full tango set really integrates nicely into KDE4. Thanks for the suggestions to improve these Tango icons.

I've created bug 295712 for the spacing issue.

Is there any proof for this claim? As far as I know,

a) openSuSE 10.3 will use KDE3 (please correct me if I'm wrong)
b) KDE4 will use Oxygen icons, which do _not_ fit with tango icons

My suggestion: revert back to crystal-icons for 10.3 (at least within KDE), as the current tango theme for YaST does not fit with the rest of the KDE desktop. YaST is a unique selling point for SuSE, and as such it is very important that the user experiences a visual integration of YaST into the whole desktop.

I agree with comment #9. I have the same opinion.
And my suggestion:
If i use KDE cd, or i choose KDE desktop in installation from DVD, i'll have crystal theme for YaST by default.
And if i use Gnome cd, or i choose Gnome desktop in installation from DVD, i'll have tango icons for YaST by default.
Tango icons for YaST realy don't fit with KDE desktop.
I think this is possible to create.Or not?

Desaturated the said icons. The layout issue is not a matter of the arteork itself.

As bug #295712 has been fixed as well, closing this one.
