I have nVidia card and using kdm with KDE. When X server starts, the graphical output is strangly distorted. When I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+F7 back to X, everything is O.K. then. It doesn't matter if I have autologin or kdm is waiting for user login. It do it right after the X server starts. May be it's not related to KDE.

Attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

??? Can't you just exchange the graphics card? Probably nobody is still testing such old Matrox graphics cards with the current driver. I'm not aware of such a card in our company. So fixing it would be hard ...

This looks better now (GeForce 7300). Does pressing Ctrl-Alt-BS, i.e. killing the Xserver, which triggers restart of the Xserver, does help as well? So only the first start of the Xserver fails?

I'll need my 7300 back from Michael before I can investigate this issue. Unfortuantely he's currently on vacation until Sun 2007-08-26. Michael, the new "intel" driver can now drive your monitor with the native resolution as well, so you won't need this card any longer. The driver is also available for openSUSE 10.2. I can help you to install it.
