kdm.log
Did you try with xdm/gdm if this is kdm-specific? The bad news is, that it doesn't happen after every reboot. I noticed it now 2 times out of 4. Don't know why or what was different then. BTW: How do I enable xdm/gdm (easily)? > BTW: How do I enable xdm/gdm (easily)?
have xdm/gdm installed ;-), init 3, change DISPLAYMANAGER in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, init 5
Ok, now I've new information: - it happens in 50% of all cases - it doesn't happen when the machine is already running: simple "init 3" "init 5" doesn't reproduce issue (regardless of kind of displaymanager) - I'm not able to reproduce it when I _reboot_ the machine, a switch off is necessary - it's not reproduceable, when the time of the switch off is short (= a few minutes) Summarized: when doing above suggested test, I wasn't able to reproduce issue. So I noticed it yesterday evening NOT, but early this morning. In both cases the kdm was configured. There were no changes in the hardware since a long time. I spent 1GB of more memory last spring. Issue doesn't occur with SUSE 10.1, nor 10.2, first noticed when doing new installation of 10.3. My current assumption regarding the cause of the problem is: the "nv" module, and that new checks at startup were made to acute. But I'm unsure regarding this. This looks again like Bug #302010 has not really been resolved. :-( I suggest to add kbd to Should-Start of earlyxdm and maybe even add sleeps in earlyxdm right before the exec of /etc/init.d/xdm in earlyxdm. YES!!! Thanks. After I added it and ran "insserv", it never happened again (did 4x boot of a "cold" machine). As I said before: I cannot reproduce it properly (= not every boot), so there might be chances, that I was just lucky afterwards. But I don't think so. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 302010 *** |
