Description Kenneth Aar 2007-10-12 13:09:09 UTC
Running any sort of software management related from Yast results in
error messages like this one:
---
YaST got signal 11 at YCP file
/usr/share/YaST2/clients/inst_productsources.ycp:296
/sbin/yast2: line 386: 22467 Memory segmentation fault
$ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2QT_ARGS
---

I have two machines both running 10.3 gold. (One laptop HP 530 1 GB ram,
and Abit Desktop with 2 GB ram) Problem persist on both machines even after reinstalling on one of them to see if it would rectify the situation. It has only been like the last 5 days before that it worked fine...

Workaround:
Smart Package manager works and so does installing RPMs from the
commandline(That's how I installed smart). But Zypper does not work(also says segfaults).

Smart is okay but I would rather use YAST for softwaremanagement.

Might be a dupe of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=332917 If you can get a backtrace it might confirm it ( See http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST#How_can_I_start_YaST_in_debugger_.28gdb.29 )

A lot of people are experiencing 332917.

I don't know how, but after an update (that previously didn't work), the system is all ok on my Desktop! I don't get the error messages any more and everything seems to work as it should.

I installed OS10.3 on a third computer this weekend and it also seemed fine after install, but thius time around I did add repositories before continuing installation(Unlike with the other two installs). So maybe this is a duplicate of some other bug that you have fixed with one of the online updates...

I will post again on monday to tell you if my laptop is also working now.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug #332917
