Description Warren Howard 2007-11-03 10:05:47 UTC
I'm using a set up :

 * Dell Latitude D630 with nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 135M graphics controller
 * nVidia driver for "new" nVidia cards
 * KDE 3.5.7
 * Compiz Fusion

I've observed that following screensavers lead to lock up events for the graphical desktop environment. The mouse responds, but keyboard and mouse clicking does not. I can however ssh into the system and kill Xorg process, which recovers the graphical desktop environment.

The screensavers that cause the lockups are :

 * Vermiculate
 * Interaggregate
 * Substrate
 * Wander

Although this may not what you want to hear, but it has been fixed, just not in 3.5.7.

You will have to upgrade to 3.5.8 via the KDE Buildserive:

sudo zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_10.3/ "openSUSE BuildService - KDE 3"

sudo zypper up -t package -r "openSUSE BuildService - KDE 3"

Will update you to KDE 3.5.8, which i've been using since the release and am very happy to see that Screensaver bug gone.
