Description Matthias Hopf 2007-11-15 15:21:12 UTC
On this laptop when shutting down the machine it doesn't power off. We finally tried 'halt -f -p' - the machine doesn't power off, and you can even log into it via ssh or a different console after that - though it behaves a little bit strange (e.g. the cursor doesn't blink any longer).

Tested kernel is 2.6.22.12-0.1.
Tested kotd kernel kernel-default-2.6.22.12-SL103_BRANCH_20071114160351.i586.rpm

Also tested HEAD kotd kernel-default-2.6.24_rc2_git4-20071114171135.i586.rpm - this one works nicely.

Machine is g19, when booted :-]

Hi,

I have got the standard openSuSE kernel.

Comment 3 Thomas Renninger 2007-11-26 11:57:04 UTC
There seem to be a lot machines affected (these come in from the duplicate):
  - MS-7093 (Compaq Presario SR1495ES) ATI RS480 ChipSet.
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
  - ASUS M2N
  - Dell Inspirion 1501

Could everybody make sure he is working on the latest kernel:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/SL103_BRANCH/
(hmm, latest update kernel should be new enough).
It should be newer than the 04-11-07 (check via rpm -q --changelog|less)

From Matthias I know he has the latest. There was some work going on in this area, I could imagine the Asus got fixed.

Increasing severity due to the bigger amount of affected systems.

I have tested the SL103_BRANCH_20071123115218, but it don't shutdown the system.

Kernel-default-2.6.24rc2*55.1 from today is ok

Kernel Kernel-default-2.6.24rc2*55.1 is not the solution, because there are external modules that do not work with it, as for example, modules for VMware or Avermedia Volar DVB-T adapter. It is impossible to compile with that kernel.
Do you have planned to release a patch for kernel 2.6.22?

Thank you for your attention.
Comment 7 Forgotten User DHIkF8sU1p 2007-12-05 12:06:31 UTC
The Kernels from HEAD are build with gcc 4.3
I made my own packages, yesterday 2.6.24-rc3 *67.1 with
rpmbuild --rebuild
So i can build another modules like VirtualBox, also build from src-rpm and the NVIDIA-Driver.

This Kernels shutdown the computer

You may find some kmp, Kernel Module Packages, here (use this command to add the repository):
zypper sa -r http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/KMP/openSUSE_Factory_KOTD_HEAD/Kernel:KMP.repo
Comment 9 Matthias Hopf 2009-02-19 11:50:02 UTC
The Compaq 6715b this bug was originally filed against works fine with current kernels - from my POV this bug can be closed FIXED.
Comment 10 Thomas Renninger 2009-02-19 12:42:35 UTC
As this won't be touched in 10.3 the bug is filed against -> won't fix.
