opensuse updater (for kde, could exist in gnome version as well) puts stuff on my screen when I click on it it goes away. I want to be able to disable this permanently. It annoys me and gets in my way.

This feature already exists.

Click the updater icon in the taskbar 
-> "Configure Applet" 
-> turn off "Show Notifications"
