It now happened the second time: After doing a factory update (zypper up -t package), the collection list in amarok is empty and I have to do a rescan.

Yes, ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection.db _is_ there, amarok just doesn't seem to recognize it.

What did you do in the end here Klaus?  Is it working, do we have something in a debuggable state?

I recreated the collection from scratch.
It didn't happen again on later updates.
