Description Grzegorz Kossakowski 2009-06-14 11:13:41 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10

After installing latest updates to my openSUSE 11.1 installation I encounter a problem that sound is muted (master channel) without any of my action.

The problem has been confirmed on two different computers with different sound cards and KDE 4.2.x installed with latest updates.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Restart computer
2. Start amarok (2.1 in my case)
3. It will notify that it failed to initialize sound device
Actual Results:
Master channel is muted and of course Amarok does not play anything.

Expected Results:
Master channel shouldn't be muted and there is no problem with initialization of sound device and playing.

It's possibly due to pulseaudio. See #502604, for example.

Could you try the packages on the URL below?
   ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/sled11-bnc499445/

Get *.rpm from there, and install them via
    rpm -Fvh *.rpm

Does the problem still happen after reboot?

Hi.

I had the same issue, but then running on Factory with KDE4.3 or KDE4 Unstable. On startup kmix has the master channel muted and preventing PA from starting up solved the issue.

I initially removed PA from my system, but this caused some other issues regarding sound in Firefox, etc. I have added your repo for Factory and installed the nwe PA and Alsa rpm's.

It seems that this solved the kmix issue. I still have to test it over a longer period, but so far it looks very good.

Regards

Raymond

11.2 should be OK now as the patch was merged.

The question is still for 11.1 / SLED11. No one reported back yet.
Can anyone confirm...?

OK, I could confirm it by myself on a test machine.
Let's submit the change...

I've installed the recommended pkgs in 11.1 and the master channel remains unmuted after several reboots.

Sorry for staying silent. I'm kind of busy right now but I can test it on my laptop today's night.

I'll report back my results.

There is a new patch in progress; it should be in the test channel in a few days.
