Description Mario Guzman 2010-04-30 19:44:30 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 SUSE/3.6.3-1.2 Firefox/3.6.3

Right after phase 1 is complete and the system states it is rebooting to continue installation, the text remains but an oval shape with about 6 colors fills the screen as a background and the screen and system freezes. If I do a reboot and boot into the new system (made easy because I use Grub2) the installation contues and completes.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install system clean
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Freeze with garbage on screen

Expected Results:
Should continue to install phase 2

Please attach YaST2 logs.
It's actually helpful to attach them to (almost) every bugreport
for YaST.

Is this with Milestone 5 or Milestone 6? Please boot with kernel option 'nomodeset' to continue installation. What's the output of 'hwinfo --gfxcard'?

Still waiting for a response for at least a week. Please reopen once
you can provide the requested feedback. Thanks.

Created attachment 364632 [details]
boot and yast logs

This also happens on Milestone 7 and I now have the logs to send. I was able to continue this time by pressing enter instead of a reboot. But I had no idea what I was pressing enter to.
Comment 7 Mario Guzman 2010-05-25 17:25:03 UTC
Reopened since this is a but in MS 7 as well.
Comment 8 Mario Guzman 2010-05-25 17:28:35 UTC
The boot and yast logs are not there and here is the command you wanted, keep in mind it was done on 11.2 but I assume you just want to see the card info.

Sorry I meant the boot and logs are NOW there on your system.
Comment 10 Stefan Dirsch 2010-05-25 17:30:54 UTC
Again. Please boot with kernel option 'nomodeset' to continue installation. What's the output of 'hwinfo --gfxcard'?
Comment 11 Mario Guzman 2010-05-25 17:33:32 UTC
Output is above and I wanted to mention that I installed all milestones and all were ok until MS6 and now MS7. I will try to get time to reinstall from scratch using the nomodeset and get back to you.
Comment 12 Mario Guzman 2010-05-25 17:43:27 UTC
Here is the HWINFO from 11.3 MS7, you can see that it is quite different from the 11.2 file above. Do you still want me to do a full reinstall to test nomodeset?

I want to make sure you understand that I can get the install to complete, it just hangs with the garbage video, then I had to reboot MS6 or in MS7 pressing enter worked. This is why I wonder if you still want the reinstall with nomodeset.I can only add the option during the install from DVD not any other time after that.

Also, note that HWINFO shows driver nvidia for 11.2 but nouveau for 11.3.
Comment 14 Stefan Dirsch 2010-05-25 20:06:03 UTC
Well, what I would like to know is whether nv driver works instead of nouveau. Hence I asked for adding 'nomodeset' as kernel boot option. The issue should still be reproducable without any xorg.conf in place, so you should still be able to test with this option.

I am sorry but I cannot get what you need since I am stopped buy bug 609228 which causes the install to fail prior to this error. I tried an install 6 times and gave up. The odd thing is that 11.3 MS7 installed twice, but today I cannot get it to go so I will have to wait until the partitioning bug is fixed. I tried many things to get it to work but no luck.
Comment 17 Stefan Dirsch 2010-06-01 09:01:31 UTC
I believe the issue you were seing is related to the problem, that we enabled KMS already during installation by mistake (see Bug #610352). That should be fixed with RC1. In case you still see the problem with RC1, please reopen. Thanks.
