During the Designer installation on Linux, you are 
prompted for the root password in order to install 
the NICI and NDSbase packages.  When typing the 
password, no asterisk characters are displayed.

It would be helpful to the user to know that 
keyboard input is being accepted and how many 
characters they have typed.
