Bugzilla – Bug 1008901
Desktop background settings
Last modified: 2017-08-14 14:01:55 UTC
I'm running a two monitor setup with a laptop in a docking station with the lid close while I'm using it. So there are three displays in total, but the laptop lid is generally closed during use unless I undock and head to a meeting with the laptop. So I noticed this morning that one of the backgrounds on one of the screens was back to the default "light bulb" background. I also noticed that they layout was reverted back to Folder View even after I tried changing it last week to just the desktop layout. Further, when I right click on that desktop and select Configure Desktop and try and select the desktop layout and hit ok it doesn't change to desktop layout. If I right click and choose configure desktop again it is still set to Folder View and doesn't seem to want to change. The primary screen seems to behave as it should, but the secondary screen is not.
Sounds like it may be fixed by the running update to Plasma 5.8.3: https://build.opensuse.org/patchinfo/show/openSUSE:Maintenance:5852/patchinfo Can you please report back if it works after the update has been released? Thank you. Or you can try it now if you want, it is available in the update-test repo already: http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.2-test/ (add the repo and update your system as usual, you should probably disable/remove it again afterwards though unless you want to continue testing updates before they are released...)
I have tried installing the updates and things are definitely better, but strange things still happen. The one thing I can reproduce every time is the following: 1. Put laptop in docking station with lid closed and boot up. 2. Log into plasma desktop on dual monitor setup and all is well. 3. Open the laptop screen and undock to go to a meeting. Plasma crashes every time at this point. It seems to recover but crashes nonetheless. 4. When I come back from the meeting and put the machine in the dock my bluetooth adapter is usually now powered off. 5. Also, usually my second screen has gone back to a default background.
Well, we're at 5.8.6 meanwhile now in Leap 42.2 (and 5.8.7 in the newly released 42.3). So, is this still an issue?
If I remember correctly, it was fixed by a KDE update in Leap 42.2 and it seems to work without issue in Leap 42.3.
Thanks for the feedback! Closing as fixed then. @Kurt Bechstein: as you are the reporter, I hope you don't take offense, and I hope that it is fixed for you too. Please feel free to reopen if you still encounter this problem on a fully updated 42.2 system (or 42.3, for that matter). Thank you.
