Description Jiri Srain 2005-08-10 10:50:19 UTC
I have in my laptop (Asus A6726GU) integrated an MS/MMC/SD card reader. If I
nesert a MS card (others not tested yet), the only thing that happens is a
message in /var/log/messages (attaching in a moment with hwinfo). I'd expect
to be able to access the contents of the card somehow.

Don't know whether it is related to bug 102342, thus creating separate bug.

Seems that the driver module for the card reader was not loaded, because this
device is not listed in any modules device table. Try loading the needed driver
manually.
Comment 7 Jiri Srain 2005-08-11 08:55:45 UTC
Which driver? How do I learn it from hwinfo? I found two AcrdBus bridges, the
laptop has only one PCMCIA slot, the only by hwinfo mentioned driver is
yenta_socket, and it is loaded.

I have the machine physically here today, so if you want to, you can logon on
it.
Comment 9 Christian Zoz 2005-08-11 10:10:59 UTC
One bridge for the slot, the other for the Cardreader. What driver did it use on
9.3. Did it work with 9.3.

Which machine?
Comment 10 Jiri Srain 2005-08-11 10:28:09 UTC
On 9.3 the machine froze completly (see comment #3).

The machine IP address is 10.20.2.82, root password as usual.

This has the same behavior as my Compaq nw8000 and i have no idea currently what
to do. It uses a multifunctional chip that provides a CardBus bridge and a smart
media controller. Probably one needs another driver for this chip, at least for
the smart media controller device.

If you need it, go and look for drivers for
0000:02:05.1 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev ac)

Currently i have more important problems to solve, sorry.

There is no specification available for this kind of pci
devices. The Cardbus bridges work in a know way. Therefor we have drivers for
the bridges but won't get drivers for the card readers soon.

Maybe we should check, how common these devices are used and try to speak with
the manufacturer.
