Bugzilla – Bug 103995
gnome menu has no "run/execute application"
Last modified: 2005-09-14 20:31:17 UTC
I cant find in gnome an entry in menu to run an application, like it is in kde, xfce and I believe almost any WM> This is very seful when you dont want to search in the mens or know the app name, and its annoying not to have one in gnome. Also, its just an easy thing to be set in applications menu. Also I believe that the menu opened by clicking right button in the backgroun maybe should have that feature (or open xterm), as it does in other gnome versions.
Both were removed upstream in GNOME. Alt-F2 currently brings up the run dialog. Stanislav, could you package nautilus-open-terminal? Its an extension that brings back the open terminal functionality and does it a little nicer. I played briefly with reverting the run dialog patch, but its not as simple as that. Still investigating there.
Package nautilus-open-terminal was created. It fixes bug 99703, too. Note that bug 5322 decreases its usability.
Assigning back to gnome-maintainers to fix second part of report.
