Bugzilla – Bug 104221
Make DVD ISOs for SUSE Linux development versions
Last modified: 2005-10-17 09:40:23 UTC
Currently the development build of the new SuSE version is distributed as 4 CD ISOs and there is no DVD ISO. This makes it very problematic to testers who have to burn four CDs in order to proceed with the installation. It is more convenient to burn one DVD. In addition, several testers use VMWare (www.vmware.com) which allows to install from an ISO image file (that is, you do not have to burn to CD/DVD). This option works with a single image file only. Trying out beta versions of Linux distributions using VMWare is very popular as you do not have to burn any CDs. In addition, installation is very fast and it can be completed in around 10-15 minutes only! The only requirement here is that of having a DVD ISO.
I would also be interested in such a format! BTW, would such a virtual installation be also possible with XEN (I don't have any clue on that topic, I must confess)? I the meantime, I presume the script attached to the following message will be a viable workaround: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2005-Aug/1794.html If you adapt this script, it would be a good idea to attach the new version to this bug report.
Created attachment 47664 [details] slightly modified script I improved the script a little and made the necessary changes for it to work with beta3. I will only test the ISO now but at least the script completed and I have valid ISO file.
hmm - why nout use the script thats already in the openSUSE wiki ? link: http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Making_a_DVD_from_CD thats works "out of the box" for the beta1 - beta3, and I think it will without modifications for the next also. give it a try ;) regards, JBScout / Thomas
we decided NOT to offer dvd isos for the development build, because we have already problems with the traffic to our mirrors. However, we do offer jigdo files, so you can build a DVD iso on your own.
