Description Christian Boltz 2005-08-14 13:45:03 UTC
While installation, YaST asks for the passphrase of encrypted partitions.

It also offers the possibility to skip mounting the partition if it is not
necessary for update (like /home). The button for doing this is titled
"Verwerfen" (dismiss) which can worry users.

"Überspringen" (skip) would be a much better description for this button.
Comment 1 Ines Pozo 2005-08-15 10:05:47 UTC
Rebecca, what do you think?
Comment 2 Rebecca Walter 2005-08-15 10:53:16 UTC
I need a screen shot or the complete English text of the dialog.

Comment 3 Ines Pozo 2005-08-16 15:19:55 UTC
For Christian's benefit, Rebecca is our editor. However I guess Christian is
actually referring to the German text. Thus I'm putting Craig, who manages
YaST translations including the German one, in copy. Nevertheless, changing
texts during the translation cycle is actually quite an impacting process and
we only do it if the issue is really critical.

Rebecca, you requested a screen shot - here it is ;-) (in german)

BTW: Please replace "ein Passwort" with "das Passwort" - otherwise someone may
think the dialog is used to change the password for the encrypted partition.
The input field to repeat the password could strengthen this impression.
Comment 5 Karl Eichwalder 2005-09-18 03:50:40 UTC
Using "Skip" is much better. In case the German translation went unchanged in
production, improving the wording is required.
Comment 6 Rebecca Walter 2005-09-18 06:41:27 UTC
I could still use an English screen shot of this. The German one didn't help
me work out if the English was problematic.

try this one :)
Comment 9 Karl Eichwalder 2005-09-27 06:07:52 UTC
ping :) what do your think about "cancel" vs. "skip"?
Comment 10 Rebecca Walter 2005-09-28 13:48:13 UTC
Sorry about the delay.

I do think Skip would be clearer if everything continues but the partition is
not mounted.

I also think more proofreading is needed, especially on the help text and the
header.

Comment 11 Karl Eichwalder 2005-09-28 15:30:06 UTC
Thanks Rebecca!

Thomas, are you still in charge for storage? If yes, please tweak the dialog
accordingly. Once done, please reassign it to translation@suse.de again - thus
we can make sure, the German translation will be adjusted as well.
Comment 12 Thomas Fehr 2005-09-29 09:44:52 UTC
Change button text to "skip" as suggested in Code base for SL 10.1
Comment 13 Karl Eichwalder 2005-11-16 09:53:58 UTC
Thanks, I'm to check it on 10.1.
Comment 14 Karl Eichwalder 2006-02-10 09:23:58 UTC
According to bug 117750, this one is probably fixed as well.

german screenshot of 10.1 beta6

In 10.1 beta6, the wording is better. However, there are some things that should be improved:

The help text still says "Abbrechen" (cancel), it should say "Überspringen" (skip)

"ein Passwort" (a password) in window title and description and first input field should be "das Passwort" (the password)
Comment 16 Karl Eichwalder 2006-03-06 08:43:25 UTC
Thomas said (bug #c12) he change the button text to "skip". Probably it is this one:

#. Cancel button
#: storage/src/include/custom_part_dialogs.ycp:231
msgid "&Skip"
msgstr ""

And that's the translation:

#. Cancel button
#: storage/src/include/custom_part_dialogs.ycp:231
msgid "&Skip"
msgstr "Ü&berspringen"

Please, adjust the help text as well (we will run an additional trans cycle; it's okay to change the text during this week):

#. help text, continued
#: storage/src/include/custom_part_helptexts.ycp:105
msgid ""
"<p>\n"
"If the encrypted file system does not contain any system file and therefore is\n"
"not needed for the update, you may select <b>Cancel</b>. In this case, the\n"
"file system is not accessed during update.\n"
"</p>\n"
msgstr ""
"<p>\n"
"Wenn das verschlüsselte Dateisystem keine Systemdatei enthält und somit nicht für\n"
"die Aktualisierung benötigt wird, können Sie <b>Abbrechen</b> wählen. In diesem Fall wird während de
r Aktualisierung\n"
"nicht auf das Dateisystem zugegriffen.\n"
" </p>\n"

Yes, the buttons are OK now.

> Please, adjust the help text as well [...]
> "If the encrypted file system does not contain any system file and therefore

If I get this right, the english help text also needs a change to "skip"...
Comment 18 Thomas Fehr 2006-03-14 11:11:22 UTC
Change the button name also in help text.
Comment 19 Christian Boltz 2006-03-18 15:03:03 UTC
The german help text still says "Abbrechen" instead of "Überspringen" in beta8.

If you think your fix was early enough for beta8, please reopen this bug ;-)
Comment 20 Christian Boltz 2006-04-02 16:28:09 UTC
In 10.1 beta9, the button text is OK - but the help text is partly in english :-(

I'll attach a screenshot.

Comment 22 Thomas Fehr 2006-04-03 09:08:32 UTC
This is to be expected. I changed the english original texts which of course
voids all translations.

The new text is:
If the encrypted file system does not contain any system file and therefore is
not needed for the update, you may select <b>Skip</b>. In this case, the
file system is not accessed during update.

The old text was:
If the encrypted file system does not contain any system file and therefore is
not needed for the update, you may select <b>Cancel</b>. In this case, the
file system is not accessed during update.
Comment 23 Karl Eichwalder 2006-04-04 08:42:20 UTC
It's probably too late for the box. We will translate it during the final cycle for SLE 10 (early May).
Comment 24 Karl Eichwalder 2006-08-03 07:23:01 UTC
updated during SLE 10 release cycle.

Because the LATER and REMIND resolutions have been removed, the resolution of this bug has changed from LATER to WONTFIX. If this bug needs to be reconsidered, reopen it and set a future "Target Milestone for Fix."
