Bugzilla – Bug 104924
ripping cd tracks (e.g. with cdparanoia) not possible as user
Last modified: 2005-08-17 09:43:29 UTC
Ripping cd tracks as normal user is not possible as default permission settings do not allow this.
What kind of special permissions are required? Please also attach the output of lshal.

I have no idea which permissions are required by cdparanoia. But at the moment it is only usable as root.
works fine as user here so I need to have look at your system.
Ah, now I see what I did "wrong". I started cdparanoia from within a ssh session. When logged in via kdm it works as user indeed. Unfortunately people not savvy of the deep mysteries of a SUSE system will not understand why this is this way.
Same as on every sane Linux distro. No access to "desktop" devices from ssh by default.
