Description Gernot Payer 2005-08-16 13:36:06 UTC
Because of another bug 1280x1024 is really unusable on my system, so I manually
switched to 1024x768. Unfortunately KDE does not remember this setting, so I
have to redo it every time I login.
Comment 1 Dirk Mueller 2005-08-16 13:56:13 UTC
ehm, how do you switch resolution? via krandr ?
Comment 2 Gernot Payer 2005-08-16 14:03:09 UTC
I have no idea which program runs in the background. I basically use the "end
user solution":

- right click on desktop
- menuitem "Desktop einrichten" ("configure desktop"?)
- click "Appearance" in left column
- click on resolution combo box
Comment 3 Lubos Lunak 2005-08-16 15:06:29 UTC
There's a checkbox that enables activating that setting also during KDE startup.
It's a question if it should default to on or off.

Comment 4 Dirk Mueller 2005-08-16 15:29:57 UTC
It should probably default to off, because whenever something goes wrong after
"apply", the settings would be permanent and you had no way to restore the
old, working default.
Comment 5 Gernot Payer 2005-08-17 09:30:49 UTC
Well, this checkbox did not catch my attention. Now that you mentioned it, I
actually saw it.
But as you have to extra acknowledge a resolution change one more time after
clicking Ok/Apply, otherwise the original state is restored, it didn't cross my
mind, that this wouldn't be permanent. Expecially as KDE settings are always
saved permanently when Ok or Apply is clicked.
So this behaviour kind of contradicts standard KDE behaviour.

possibly later

Comment 8 Stephan Kulow 2006-05-21 13:31:58 UTC
we should check that.

Reorganization of usability-bug assignments.
We try to discharge the number of our bug entries in the next
weeks.

Comment 10 Evamaria Fuchs 2006-12-18 10:31:22 UTC
For consistency reasons KDE settings should be saved permanently when clicking ok/apply
For this special case: why isn't it possible to replace the checkbox "Apply settings on KDE startup" by a checkbox "Settings for current session only" or so, and change behavior accordingly?
Comment 11 Stephan Binner 2007-01-24 16:21:21 UTC
I shall answer why? Who says that it isn't possible? :-)
Or shall I implement it (label change, inverse checkbox behavior)?
Comment 12 Evamaria Fuchs 2007-01-24 20:28:11 UTC
coolo, can you decide?
Comment 13 Stephan Kulow 2007-01-25 09:49:13 UTC
this module is a mess it seems - but after some chatting with Stephan we agree with Eva :)

Kcontrol settings are expected to be consistent over KDE restarts
Comment 14 Stephan Binner 2007-04-05 13:32:18 UTC
Changed in Factory.
