YaST2 System Update: Don't write to the install media for dir:///mnt sources
Last modified: 2008-06-25 09:52:19 UTC
I decided to try out the System Update functionallity to update from beta 1 to beta2. The Beta 2 CDROMs are at a read-only mounted directory and the installation source is: dir:///mnt If I now try to do the system update I get the following error message: ---------------------------------- ERROR(InstTarget:E_RpmDB_subprocess_failed) --- 2005-08-17 19:42:18 filesystem-10.0-4.i586.rpm install failed rpm output: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /mnt: cpio: chown failed - Read-only file system ---------------------------------- Expected: Don't try to extract anything on the installation media, use - if needed be - the system to be upgraded.
*g* /mnt is used by YaST for the target system. Simple workaround: Don't use /mnt for your installation media. OTOH, YaST should warn (or use a different mountpoint) if /mnt is already used. -> Later
mass reopening all SuSE Linux bugs that are set to REMIND+LATER to change the resolution to WONTFIX (adapting to new policy)
Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED. In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
