Bugzilla – Bug 105514
Yast cannot handle Compaq Smart Area RAID devices
Last modified: 2005-08-24 09:12:08 UTC
I tried to install on $subject system (three disks RAID 0 - shouldn't matter). After booting install system, partition requests manual intervention. There I only have the Expert settings as a choice. I entered -> no partitions/disks. I left and reentered, then even the Expert setting button vanished and a popup like "No disks found" popped up. Seems as if the Yast partitioner cannot handle these Compaq Smart Area devices (copied from another machine): 104 0 35551845 cciss/c0d0 104 1 7341673 cciss/c0d0p1 104 2 7341705 cciss/c0d0p2 104 3 1 cciss/c0d0p3 104 5 1052226 cciss/c0d0p5 104 6 19816146 cciss/c0d0p6 104 16 35551845 cciss/c0d1 You may want to test on the machine: aguirre (please be careful, it's not a productive systems, but some people also work on this system).
I should have mentioned that I recently installed on such a system with SLES9-SP2 -> worked fine.
Please attach YaST logs of the failed installation, see: http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST
The attached log files are all only one line long and do not help much. It is easily possible that there is a fundmental problem with libstorage and these cciss devices. So far I never had access to a system with such devices. I will coordinate with you on Monday to do some tests with libstorage on aguirre if possible.
Installation on this devices should work with beta#3. If not please reopen.
Is there any workaround to use the devices on BETA2? I'm having same problem but on i386. /proc/partitions does show partitions and from shell I can manually partition them, they just aren't recognized as valid disks by YaST.
Sorry, no there is no workaround I know of. The fix for libstorage is pretty trivial but it is nontrivial to create a installation environment containing the fixed libstorage. But beta#3 is available later this week and should have the bug fixed.
