AbiWord listed as 'Word Processor' in default menu ...
Last modified: 2005-09-07 13:15:34 UTC
Certainly shouldn't be giving the impression this is the default word processor - that's going to be a compatibility nightmare. Arguably shouldn't be installed by default :-) Also - can't find 'gedit' in the menus - which is annoying.
gedit should be in Accessories/Text Editor, isn't it there for you?
Uh ? - I have no top-level 'Accessories' menu: Panel->Applications: Applications *this menu is stuffed with junk* Games Graphics Internet Multimedia Office System Utilities SuSE Help Center we are talking SUSE 10.0 Beta2 installed from CDs right ? my nice NLD box works fine of course with the layout you describe but ...
Rodrigo, you are using the ximian menu hacks, not the default menu system.
In the stock SL10.0 menus, Applications -> Office -> Word Processor -> Word Processor is abiword, so this remains a valid bug. abiword is in the Gnome selection, so it's installed by default with the Gnome desktop. Possible solutions: - Change the string in abiword.desktop (and get the string translated) - Drop abiword from the Gnome selection
Michael: gedit is under Applications -> Utilities -> Editor -> Text Editor, the same menu as emacs.
ah - yes :-) thanks. Clearly dropping AbiWord'd be the most sensible & simple approach.
Agreed, please remove abiword from from the default gnome selection (but it should remain on the media).
fixed for Beta4.
If we removed a GNOME Word Processor in GNOME2 selection, we probably don't want GNOME Spreadsheet (gnumeric) in GNOME2 selection, too. What is your opinion?
Well - Abiword was listed as 'Word Processor' not 'GNOME word processor'. Since gnumeric has some edge for certain tasks, and at least can export data in .xls format - perhaps it's ok to leave it there at least until we have the startup /memory improvements for OO.o in SL10.1 :-) No strong feelings personally - over to JP... ;-)
No strong feeling here, especially this late for 10.0. Leave as it is.
