Description Ulrich Windl 2005-08-22 06:59:31 UTC
When using the stylus of the Wacom Intuos tablet (USB), there is a "pointer
icon" in GIMP (arrow) and a tool icon (e.g. paint brush). However the pointer
has a significant vertical offset from the tool (larger than 50 pixel).

Ulrich is this still the case in 10.2? Did you file this upstream as well?
Comment 2 JP Rosevear 2007-02-09 21:00:33 UTC
Bryan can you replicate this?
Comment 3 Bryan Perry 2007-02-15 19:58:51 UTC
I now have a machine running SLED 10 SP1, Xgl, and the Wacom tablet. When using the stylus with the tablet in the canvas window of gimp, I can see the pointer and the tool icon associated with it just exactly the same as it appears on any of my other machines without the tablet.

I'm not sure if the space between the pointer and the icon is 50 pixels or not, but it looks okay to me. I am attaching a picture (since a screenshot doesn't capture the pointer) so that Ulrich can tell me if this is the same thing he is seeing or not.

FWIW, what Bryan is seeing isn't tablet-specific; even with a mouse, there are distinct pointer and tool icons. The tool icon is an indicator of what tool you have selected, and I imagine it's purposefully offset from the pointer so as not to obscure your work unduly. It's a bad idea to have the pointer covering too many pixels near the hot spot.

I'm not sure whether Ulrich is seeing the same thing (though Bryan's picture doesn't seem to show a gap of anywhere near 50 pixels); it may also be that it's fixed in more recent packages. In the former case, this bug would be INVALID or WORKSFORME. In the latter, it's FIXED, though not for 10.0 specifically. I'm going to assume FIXED, at least moving forward.
