VUL-0: CVE-2018-19364: xen: qemu: 9pfs: Use-after-free due to race condition while updating fid path
Last modified: 2019-03-25 07:50:38 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1116717 +++ via oss-sec Hello, A use-after-free flaw was found in the VirtFS, host directory sharing via Plan 9 File System(9pfs) support in QEMU. It could occur due to a race condition in updating fid path in worker threads via v9fs_path_copy(), while accessing files on a shared host directory. A user inside guest could use this flaw to crash the QEMU process resulting in DoS issue. Upstream patch: --------------- -> https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2018-11/msg01139.html -> https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2018-11/msg02795.html This issue was reported by Zhibin hu. No shipping xen qemu version supports 9pfs (upstream or tradational). Explanation: Support for 9pfs was added in the 'upstream' Xen qemu version with Xen 4.9. This is the Xen version that shipped with sle12sp3. However, we don't ship the 'upstream' xen qemu version in sle12sp3. Instead we use the KVM/qemu version. The qemu-traditional version which does ship in sle12sp3 is very old and doesn't support 9pfs. This bug and 1117279 can be closed.
