Description Stefan Behlert 2005-08-26 14:45:28 UTC
Acer-machine, suspend-to-disk is working, but has one nuisance:
After the "Writing data to swap: 0%" is written, the suspending stops for a
few seconds before continuing.
I've added a screenshot showing the messages printed. Looks to me like some
SATA-command is causing the problem.

I can reproduce this

Is that so big problem? So you wait few seconds :-). We have way worse problems
with SATA.

Is it normal delay or is disk trying to spin up in that period?

i believe it is hiding a real bug: i have seen it pause for 30 second and then
panic twice (and hang) on a new acer, not sure if it is the same machine.
Also, we want suspend to be faster than reboot, don't we? ;-)
Comment 4 Pavel Machek 2005-08-28 13:43:27 UTC
Jens, do you want to play with this one?
Comment 5 Jens Axboe 2005-08-28 14:18:37 UTC
Sounds like the problem we have with spinning disks up and down. This will be
solved in due time (I believe Pavel already posted patches on lkml for a proper
pm_message_t type), I'd say we just close this.
Comment 6 Stefan Behlert 2005-08-29 08:13:16 UTC
Pavel: The problem is, that we tell everyone 'use suspend-to-disk, it's
working, and it is fast'. And we have a delay without any visible cause -
might be frightening some people :)
During that 5 seconds (might be six, hard to time) nothing happens, no disk
sound is hearable. Never seen it pausing for a time as long as mentioned by
seife with beta3.
And since I know that SATA is problematic, I thought perhaps one of you guys
is already working on a problem associated with that one.
Comment 7 Stefan Behlert 2005-08-31 15:10:12 UTC
Still waiting a lot of seconds with beta4.
Comment 8 Stefan Behlert 2005-09-02 12:34:33 UTC
 reopening for closing it later
