Description James Ogley 2005-08-27 15:00:35 UTC
I've installed the NetworkManager package, but when I try to start it, it fails,
and the following is written to /var/log/messages:

Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: <information> starting...
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: <WARNING>   (): nm_dbus_init() could not
get the system bus. Make sure the message bus daemon is running?
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: <ERROR> [1125154505.224381] ():
nm_dbus_init() failed, exiting. Either dbus is not running, or the
NetworkManager dbus security policy was not loaded.
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: traceback:
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: /usr/bin/NetworkManager [0x806083c]
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager:
/lib/tls/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xd0) [0x401ede60]
Aug 27 15:55:05 dhcp1 NetworkManager: /usr/bin/NetworkManager [0x804cd81]

I've restarted dbus [rcdbus restart] to load the NetworkManager security policy,
but that made no difference.

This is with the NetworkManager packages found on dist.suse.de for last-i386

By using the packages from Robert's web page, everything works.

Miguel, do you have an URL for those? I checked rlove.org and primates/~rml and
saw no mention of NM packages.

Robert, is the latest submitted now?
Comment 4 Robert Love 2005-09-12 14:09:19 UTC
Miguel needed to reboot.
