Description Andreas Jaeger 2005-08-29 08:06:38 UTC
AFAIK KDE does not need the xcompmgr package and/or binary at all. Nevertheless
translucency only works if xcompmgr is installed.

Reproduce:
* Try to enable translucency. Nothing happens, logout/login again: No translucency.

* Add xcompmgr package, try above again and voila you have translucent windows.

as far as I can see it only reads ~/.xcompmgr. can you confirm that it works
when this file is there, but the binary itself is not?

otherwise I'd assume that X.org somehow doesn't load one extension or another
if xcompmgr is missing.

I tested it, works fine here:

$ rpm -qa | grep xcomp
$
