Bugzilla – Bug 114495
OpenOffice 2.0 can NOT write Hebrew language.
Last modified: 2006-02-09 10:10:25 UTC
OpenOffice 2.0 can't use KDE font "Sans Serif", which results in Hebrew language failure. All fonts that were tested inside OOo 2.0 can't display Hebrew Israeli characters. Instead those fonts display nothing or squares. KOffice on the other hand *uses* San Serif font by default, which solves the Hebrew-language problem. I'm not speaking now about Menu translations, but about the very basic capability of localised text input-output. This is a critical issue for Hebrew-speakers, and must be marked accordingly.

This is not really a critical bug. (critical -> normal) And please update the status to ``assigned'' when accepting a bug, otherwhise it will be closed after some time. This is a b3-bug, please check if it wasn't fixed already in b4 or the upcoming RC1. If not, you are free to reopen it.
NOT FIXED in BETA4. Reopening.
Petr, you may want to look into this.
OK, I'll look at it.
Some Hebrew fonts will be in the culmus package on SL 10.1/NLD10. This package will be automatically installed when you select Hebrew language withing installation. I fixed OOo configuration. It uses the Culmus fonts when they are installed and the Hebrew language is selected for the document. Note: OOo allows to define a list of searched fonts for various situations: UI (menu), normal text, titles, presentation, spreadsheet. We use the following list in all situations now: Nachlieli CLM;Miriam CLM;Ellinia CLM;Aharoni CLM;Drugulin CLM;Miriam Mono CLM;lucidagrande;nachlieli;tahoma;lucidasans;arialunicodems It meeans that the font "Nachlieli CLM" is the most preferred font. Feel free to reopen this bug or create another one when you find a problem or if you would prefere different fonts in the variaous situations.
Forgot to write that the fixed OOo configuration should be available on SL 10.1-beta5/NLD10-beta4.
